About the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), formerly known as the National Open School (NOS), was established in November 1989. It functions as an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, in pursuance of the National Policy on Education 1986.
NIOS is not just an alternative for failed students; it is a comprehensive provider of diverse educational opportunities, including:

Do you want to use NIOS to finish your 12th grade education? The 2025–2026 NIOS 12th Admission Procedure is currently open. The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) provides a flexible alternative to traditional education for students who have failed their 11th or 12th grade classes. The flexible curriculum offered by NIOS allows students to continue their education through open schooling 12th class, saving them an academic year.
Eligibility & Documents required • For 10th grade:
Admissions, you’ll need either a Birth Certificate from a Nursing Home, First Class Magistrate, Nagar Nigam, or an 8th Class Pass Transfer Certificate, along with your Aadhar Card. Also, prepare 6 coloured passport-size photographs with your name, date, and proof of Guardian/Parents’ address (photocopy), excluding a Driving License.
Eligibility & Documents required • For 12th grade:
Admissions, ensure you have a photocopy of your Class 10th Mark Sheet and Passing Certificate, along with a copy of your Aadhar Card. Additionally, gather 6 coloured passport-size photographs featuring your name, date, and proof of Guardian/Parents’ address (photocopy), excluding a Driving License.
